Pedagogical Technology Research Laboratory
Welcome
Welcome to the Pedagogical Technology Research Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. The Pedagogical Technology Research Laboratory conducts research related to the effects of physical activity on motor competence, physical fitness, and cognitive processes in children. The research questions and projects of the lab are largely translational in nature as both quantitative and qualitative methodologies are utilized to understand children in formal physical activity settings such as schools. The research examines performance outcomes resulting from participation in quality physical education programming and are related to the prevention of childhood obesity. Efforts generated in this laboratory help to meet the university and college strategic plans through the collaboration with schools and the advancement and application of technology.
Specifically, this lab supports research and examination from multiple perspectives:
- Undergraduate students examine teaching effectiveness in physical education as a means of attaining the NASPE national and state physical education standards of student performance.
- Undergraduate students develop interactive, web-based portfolios evidencing professional growth.
- Graduate student research in the effectiveness of instruction and student achievement resulting from instruction as well as physical activity correlates and motives of children.
- PETIPS outreach servicing physical education teachers as professional development toward lesson and curriculum enrichment.
- Faculty research on the effects of physical activity on fitness, motor, and cognitive performance.
The Pedaogical Technology Research Laboratory is located in
Louise Freer Hall, Room 131.
