Graduate Studies

Students wishing to pursue a graduate degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in neurocognitive kinesiology are encouraged to contact Professor Hillman prior to applying. Such communication will allow for clarification of issues regarding research opportunities, potential for funding, and other issues that the prospective applicant might have questions about. Applications are considered at any time of the year, although funding opportunities may be more limited at certain times.

Students accepted into the graduate program will be given numerous opportunities to be involved in research, teaching, and the writing and presentation of papers. Students completing a doctoral degree will generally have several publications in peer-reviewed journals, have presented numerous papers at national conferences (e.g., American College of Sports Medicine, Society for Psycophysiological Research), and be prepared to continue as an independent investigator. Undergraduate Studies

Undergraduates in Kinesiology are encouraged to pursue the opportunities available for research in the Neurocognitive Kinesiology Laboratory. Students can receive up to 3 academic credits per semester to satisfy supervised research experience courses, independent study courses, or undergraduate honors theses. It is desirable for undergraduates to apply for a full one year term under the KIN 385 or PSYC 290 rubric.

Participating in research for undergraduate experience allows students to gain new skills and insight that will further their education and provide needed background for advanced study in graduate school or medical professions. Students engage in research activities such as participant interaction, data collection, data reduction, and data presentation. Students will also have the opportunity to work closely with graduate students and Dr. Hillman. If interested, please contact Professor Hillman.
