Gait-Balance Research Laboratory
Research
Karl S. Rosengren's research focuses on cognitive and motor development. His motor development research investigates the control of posture and gait across the life span. Current research includes studies of balance and gait control in young preschool children and sedentary and active elderly individuals. His research in cognitive development examines children's causal reasoning with a special emphasis on how children come to distinguish fantasy and reality. Additional research cutting across both cognitive and motor development investigates the development of fine motor skills such as drawing. Professor Rosengren holds a joint appointment in the Department of Psychology and is an Affiliate of the Beckman Institute. He is an active member in the Society for Research in Child Development and the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity.
