Gait-Balance Research Laboratory
Welcome
Welcome to the Gait-Balance Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. The Gait-Balance Laboratory conducts research pertinent to expanding the scientific knowledge base that informs the practice of safe and effective interaction with the local enviroment. The primary focus of the Gait-Balance Laboratory relates to the examination of the various dimensions of how children and older adults adapt to changes in the local enviroment in order to act safely and effectively. The research questions and projects of the lab range from basic to applied and are often multi-disciplinary in nature. As such, the Gait-Balance Laboratory will frequently collaborate with other laboratories in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health as well as other departments across the University of Illinois campus.
In addition to supporting faculty led research projects, the Gait-Balance Laboratory provides essential research opportunities for Kinesiology students in the undergraduate and graduate education programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Laboratory experiences will expand a student’s theoretical understanding of the profession of Behavior Kinesiology, develop unique and innovative research skills, and foster intellectual growth through scholarly inquiry.
