PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE February, 2007 - July, 2007, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2004 - Present, University of Illinois Healthy, Active, Lifestyle Trial (HALT)
- 12-month randomized controlled exercise intervention funded by NIA
examining the effects of aerobic exercise on cognitive and immune
function, as well as psychosocial factors in older adults. Primary
responsibilities include screening and scheduling participants,
supervision of exercise sessions, functional fitness testing, graded
exercise testing, and data collection. Eye Movement Neurocoupling (ENC) -
Cross-sectional study examining the associations between fitness and
physical activity levels with cognitive function and eye movement in
older adults. Primary responsibilities include coordinating maximal
graded exercise testing, data collection, and providing liaison between
collaborating laboratories. Freshmen Study - Three-month prospective
study examining the psychosocial determinants of physical activity and
nutrition behaviors in freshmen students. As project coordinator,
primary responsibilities included study design, participant recruitment
and scheduling, management and training of study staff, coordination of
participating laboratories, conduction of body composition assessment
using air-displacement plethysmography, data collection and analysis,
and writing of results. Activity, Gait, and Efficacy (AGE) -
Three-year longitudinal study funded by NIA, examining the
relationships between physical activity, gait and balance, bone health,
and psychosocial correlates in older African American and Caucasian
women. Primary responsibilities included data collection through
interview sessions. Physical Activity in Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (PhAIMS)
- Randomized controlled exercise intervention examining the effects of
self-efficacy on exercise adherence in MS patients. Responsibilities
include functional fitness testing, supervision of exercise sessions,
and data collection. Physical Activity and Quality of Life During Menopause (LIFEPAQ)
- Randomized controlled exercise trial examining the relationship
between physical activity, menopausal symptoms, and quality of life in
menopausal women. Responsibilities include conducting body composition
and bone density assessment using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry
(DXA) and maximal graded exercise testing. 2002-2003, Kansas State University D. Scholarly Activity D1. Selected peer-reviewed publications. Doerksen, S. E., Umstattd, M. R., McAuley, E. (in press).
