C. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2002-Present, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

C1. Research Assistant: Exercise Psychology Laboratory, at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Under the direction of Professor Edward McAuley. Primary responsibilities include data collection and analysis; conducting exercise tests such as maximal graded exercise testing (GXT) and functional fitness testing (FFT); training personnel; writing, presenting, and publishing research finding in scientific journals and professional meetings. Involved in a number of externally funded research projects, detailed information is provided as following:

Internet Physical Activity for College Students (IPACS). An internet-based randomized controlled exercise trial funded by the Critical Initiatives in Research and Scholarship at UIUC. This project examines the effects of an Internet delivered physical activity program on psychosocial outcomes, academic performance, and social involvement in undergraduate students with mental health disorders. Primary responsibilities include creating internet-delivered educational and motivational materials of exercising, scheduling participants, providing exercise counseling at monthly meetings, and data collection.

Healthy, Active, Lifestyle Trial (HALT), (2006-present). National Institute on Aging (NIA) funded 12-month randomized controlled exercise intervention examining the effects of aerobic exercise on brain structure and cognitive, immune and psychosocial function in older adults. Primary responsibilities include scheduling participants, supervision of walking and flexibility/toning/stretching classes, conducting and supervising functional fitness testing, graded exercise testing, one mile walk test, and data collection.

Immune Function, exercise Intervention Trial (IMFIT), (2004-present). NIA funded study examining the effect of a ten-month exercise program on psychosocial factors and immune indices among older adults. Primary responsibilities include data collection and liaison duties between the Exercise Psychology Lab and Exercise Immunology Lab, data analyses, writing and presentation of research findings.

Eye Movement Neurocoupling (ENC), (2004-present). NIA funded cross-sectional study examining the associations between fitness and physical activity with cognitive function and eye movement in older adults. Primary responsibilities include supervising graded exercise testing and data collection.

Activity, Gait, and Efficacy (AGE), (2005-06). NIA funded prosepective study examining the relationships between physical activity, gait and balance, bone health, and psychosocial correlates in older African American and Caucasian women. Responsibilities include data collection and analyses, writing and presentation of research findings.

Physical Activity in Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (PhAIM-S), (2005-06). National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) funded randomized controlled exercise intervention examining the effects of self-efficacy on exercise adherence in MS patients. Responsibilities include supervision of exercise sessions, conducting functional fitness testing , providing monthly exercise feedbacks, and data collection.

Physical Activity and Quality of Life During Menopause (LIFEPAQ), (2004-05). Randomized controlled exercise trial examining the relationship between physical activity, menopausal symptoms, and quality of life in menopausal women. Responsibilities include maximal graded exercise testing.

Illinois Active Aging (IAA)-2, (2002-04).  NIA funded project examining the effects of a 6 month exercise intervention on various psychosocial variables, and physical and neurocognitive functioning in sedentary older adults. Responsibilities include functional fitness testing, maximal graded exercise testing, scheduling, data collection, and liaison duties.

Illinois Active Aging (IAA)-Plus, (2002-04). NIA funded longitudinal (5 years) follow-up study examining the effects of a 6 month exercise intervention (Illinois Active Aging-1) on psychological and physical functioning in sedentary older adults. Responsibilities include testing, scheduling, data collection, writing and presentation of research findings.

C2. Teaching Assistant:
Department of Kinesiology
Kines 247: Introduction to Sports and Exercise Psychology, in Fall 2006, and Fall, 2007. Primary responsibilities include tutoring, grading, administration of exams and lecturing.
