How do you think
working in the lab will help you in the future?
I find it remarkable the amount of useful information and applicable
skills I can take with me after only one semester [in the lab].
The skills I’ve acquired during my time here will most definitely
assist me in my continued education and my professional life in
the years that follow.
Working with the elderly in this setting has helped me make an
important decision regarding my future career. While physical therapy
has always been my choice for a career path, after working in the
EPL I have decided to focus on geriatrics.
Eventually I plan on going in to physical therapy and focusing
on geriatrics and I feel like my opportunities this semester and
those to come are definitely helping prepare me for [the future].
I also believe it was a great resume booster when applying to physical
therapy schools.
Whether I decide to go to medical school or physical therapy school,
I have learned many skills that will be valuable to my future career
I have no doubt the connections I’ve made through the EPL
will be of assistance and support as I continue my education.
Currently, I am working as a fitness specialist and fitness instructor
for a local health center, and already I have seen an improvement
in my knowledge and confidence in fitness in general as a result
of my work in the lab.
I think it is important to have a realistic idea of what graduate
school will be like and the challenges and responsibilities
I will have if I continue on this path. Many PT programs now require
students to conduct their own experiments
or aide professors with their research.
I am still in the process of considering whether I will attend
graduate
school in physical therapy or [get a PhD]. However, the skills I
am learning now will be valuable as I prepare for and complete graduate
school and beyond.
