Comments from undergraduates about their experiences working in the EPL

Where you happy with your experience?

I am very grateful for this opportunity because it is just about impossible to get this type of experience in a classroom or outside the actual lab setting. I am excited to head into the fall semester knowing that I continue to gain experience and grow more confident in my responsibilities ...

I am very satisfied with the kind of work I am doing and the amount of time that is expected from me. Some other students I know enrolled in Kines 385 are involved with merely data entry positions or busy work type jobs, and that was not what I sought from this experience.

Overall, my experience in the EPL this summer has been a very positive and rewarding one. ... I really enjoy working with the staff and with the participants. I have learned some new and interesting things.

I was not just taught data entry or clean-up duties, as might be expected for a new researcher. Instead I was put out front with everyone to directly test participants. Getting to work face to face with those men and women is, in my mind, the best part of the job, and I consider myself lucky to get to do it.

In any new situation, I have a tendency to be a bit anxious, but within a few weeks, I felt more comfortable around my new acquaintances. I was accepted and needed as a team member, and things keep getting better. Though I do not "live in the lab" like some grads, or get all the inside jokes, I really like the team and appreciate their efforts to make me feel like part of it.

And, I am sure, there is more left to learn that I don't even know I am going to learn yet! I am very glad to be on board, and I am very excited to be actively doing something with my education.
