Bone and Body Composition Laboratory
Research Facilities
DXA 4500A
The Body Composition Laboratory is located on the first floor of Freer Hall. The lab is equipped with some of the latest technology used in the assessment of bone and body composition. The centerpiece of the facility is a Hologic 4500A densitometer dual energy x-ray absorptiometry that provides 4-component measurement of body composition.
Underwater Weighing
The lab also can measure body density with its underwater weighing apparatus that along with measuring underwater weight can simultaneous measure residual volume. A bioelectrical impedance analyzer, bone ultrasonic analyzer, and Sensormedics Metabolic Monitor unit for assessment of resting metabolic rate, are also part of the laboratory complex.
Parvomedics Metabolic Cart
The Bone and Body Composition Laboratory is a part of the T.K. Cureton Physical Fitness Research Laboratory, which contains a clinical exercise testing area complete with a Parvomedics metabolic cart for assessment of maximal oxygen consumption and YSI glucose/lactate analyzer. This facility also includes a clinical specimen room and an adult fitness exercise facility for conduction of exercise intervention trials.
