Biomechanics Research Laboratory
Research
Les G. Carlton’s research focuses on issues related to an understanding of skilled motor performance. Much of this research has been interdisciplinary in orientation, involving aspects of motor learning and control, biomechanics, neuromuscular / physiological aspects of movement and ergonomics. Research has focused on movement speed-accuracy trade-offs with specific interest in how movement accuracy changes as force requirements increase, how vision is used for controlling movements, and the use of augmented information for skill acquisition. Professor Carlton is a Consulting Editor for the Journal of Motor Behavior and has reviewed for more than 20 Journals and granting agencies. He is active in the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity and the Psychonomic Society.
