Sports Medicine Research Laboratories
Research Experiences and Opportunities
The Sports Medicine Research Laboratory conducts research pertinent to expanding the scientific knowledge base that informs the practice of athletic training and to provide clinical instruction to athletic training students. The Sports Medicine Research Laboratory is primarily interested in research associated with brain injury, the neuromuscular aspects of injury prevention, rehabilitation, and strength training, and how injury can influence human movement patterns. The research questions and projects of the lab range from basic to applied and are often multi-disciplinary in nature. As such, the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory will frequently collaborate with other laboratories in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health as well as other departments across the University of Illinois campus.
In addition to supporting faculty led research projects, the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory provides essential research opportunities for athletic training students in the undergraduate and graduate athletic training education programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Laboratory experiences will expand a student’s theoretical understanding of the profession of Athletic Training, develop unique and innovative research skills, and foster intellectual growth through scholarly inquiry.
